Trans Himalayas. The Trans himalaya is a 1,600-kilometer (990 mi) long mountain range that runs parallel to the main Himalayan range in a west-to-east orientation. It is on the southern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, north of the Yarlung Tsangpo river. The Trans-Himalayas is mostly made up of granite and volcanic materials.At 3-2.5 Ma, the plate boundary fault shifted to the Main Frontal Thrust (MFT) to the south of the MBT, causing rapid uplift of the marginal range of the Lesser Himalaya and the Siwalik Hills. A rootless ~ lenticular quartz vein also defines the S-plane (Mukherjee 2011b).
